This course focuses on the major neurotransmitter-receptor systems in the brain and the detailed mechanistic underpinnings by which psychotropic drugs (including antipsychotics, antidepressants, anxiolytics, anticonvulsants, drugs of abuse, and others) affect the nervous system. It is designed for students who already have basic knowledge of neuroscience. Each class will involve a student-led discussion of a recent research paper, which illustrates important advanced principles of neuropharmacology and state-of-the-art methods used in the field.
