Program: PhD MTA: NEU
Why you chose ISMMS?
I chose ISMMS because of their commitment to translational research, their dedication to student mentorship and great track record of NIH funding.
Lab: Dr. Kristen Brennand
Heterozygous deletion of neurexin-1 (NRXN1), a presynaptic cell adhesion molecule, is strongly associated with neuropsychiatric disorders and psychosis. My project is focused on establishing a causal link between NRXN1 deletion, transcriptional and cellular phenotypes in excitatory neurons derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells.
Undergrad institution and major: Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Biology and Biotechnology
What did you do between college and grad school?
Between college and graduate school I completed a Masters Degree in biology where I worked on understanding molecular mechanisms of neuronal migrations in C. elegans.
What do you like to do outside of school?
Outside of school I enjoy hiking in the Catskills, traveling and hanging out with friends.
What is your favorite quote? “The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” -Eleanor Roosevelt
