Name: Torre, Olivia
Year you started at ISMMS: 2014
Program: PhD MTA: DTE
Why you chose ISMMS?
I was really excited about the DTE program and the focus Mount Sinai places on translational research. The environment here is highly collaborative, and I am very happy to be part of this forward-thinking group of researchers. Also, you can’t beat being in NYC!
Lab: Dr. James Iatridis
Undergrad institution and major: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute – Biomedical Engineering
What did you do between college and grad school?
After graduating from RPI, I got a Masters of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering from Cornell University. I worked as a research assistant in the spine lab with Dr. James Iatridis here at Mount Sinai for a year before starting my PhD.
What do you like to do outside of school?
I really enjoy running, playing beach volleyball, or getting lost in the city.
What is your favorite quote? “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” -Mark Twain
