Why you chose ISMMS?
I valued the sense of community here and the access to research and career development resources in and around NYC. I especially liked Sinai’s strengths in neuropsychiatric and epigenetics research as well.
Lab: Akbarian Lab
I study how stress impacts higher order epigenetics, especially chromosomal looping, thereby leading to either resilience or susceptibility to depression.
Undergrad institution and major: Arizona State University// Biology: Animal Physiology and Behavior; Psychology; Spanish minor
What did you do between college and grad school?
I took a research year on a Fulbright Fellowship in Spain. During this time, I learned about how the gut microbiome intersects with depression and anxiety.
What do you like to do outside of school?
make music on guitar/bass/keys, hike, read, catch comedy, spook speakeasies
