Why you chose ISMMS?
I chose ISMMS for its highly collaborative environment within the institute and worldwide. This establishes a great scientific community to conduct global research, thus providing a rich learning environment for graduate students.
Lab: Dr. Alison Goate
My lab focuses on understanding how certain genetic factors contribute to Alzheimer’s disease. To understand this mechanism, our lab has developed induced pluripotent stem cells from individuals with known genetic causes of disease. These genetic variation could be a major factor in lipid overload and microglia are major regulator in clearing lipid debris. My project focuses on investigating the role of microglia in lipid clearance and using CRISPR to alter the alter expression.
Undergrad institution and major: Hunter College
