Name: Arunkumar, Guha
Year you started at ISMMS: 2016
Program: PhD MTA: MIC
Why you chose ISMMS?
The Microbiology department at Mount Sinai struck me as one of the most collaborative departments with highly prestigious researchers. For someone who wanted to learn about, and dive into the field of Virology, I felt that Sinai is one of the best places to do my PhD at. The graduate school also permits a high level of flexibility in terms of rotations, movement across MTAs etc. and this was very appealing to me.
Lab: Florian Krammer
Undergrad institution and major: VIT University, India – Bachelor of Technology in Biotechnology
What did you do between college and grad school?
I received my Master of Biotechnology degree at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and joined Sinai right after!
What do you like to do outside of school?
Outside lab, I like to indulge in student government activities and participate in student organizations to contribute to Sinai in any way possible. I enjoy photography, cooking (whenever I can), gaming, following football (soccer), and love to sample different restaurants in the city.
What is your favorite quote? “New antivirals from the lab at Mount Sinai. A clever virologist figured it out.” – Root, Person of Interest
