Name: Cohen, Toby
Year you started at ISMMS: 2010
Program: MDPhD MTA: MIC
Why you chose ISMMS?
I chose Sinai for a few reasons. First, the incredible research of the faculty – I knew that I would have many options for mentors. Second, the community, both within the MD/PhD program and at Sinai in general. The people here are inspiring and the school works to foster a very collaborative environment. The MD/PhD students are well integrated with both the medical and graduate schools as well as having their own community. Last (but certainly not least), it’s in NYC. I’m a native New Yorker and there’s no where I’d rather be than here.
Lab: Domenico Tortorella, PhD
Exploiting Small Molecules to Better Understand Cytomegalovirus Infection
Undergrad institution and major: Brown University, Biology and Classics
What did you do between college and grad school?
I worked for a small biotechnology company called EpiVax. My focus was on data analysis and working at the company’s interface of its in silico and ex vivo data.
What do you like to do outside of school?
I’ve been pretty involved in Student Council. I was Vice President for 2013-2014 and have served on multiple subcommittees over the year. Outside the walls of Sinai, I’m a big sports fan – both watching and playing.
